- Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only one subcategory or one article. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:15, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Merge per nom ~ Tom.Reding (talk ?dgaf) 19:57, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep all: If someone is interested in "Burial monuments and structures" in general, and wants to see what Afghanistan has to offer, they should not be required to guess whether the country has cemeteries (yes), mausoleums (no) tombs (no) or tumuli (no). Any of those three currently non-existent subcategories could come into existence at a future point, so the parent category Category:Burial monuments and structures in Afghanistan is capable of being expanded. This category sits within an established hierarchy and is non-empty, so should be kept as is. Same applies to the rest of the categories specified. PamD 23:18, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- Categories are meant to facilitate navigation between articles and currently we do not have articles about burial monuments and structures in Afghanistan other than cemeteries. The merge will help to get quicker from these cemetery articles to other death-related articles in Afghanistan (and so on in other countries). Marcocapelle (talk) 05:57, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
Category:Fugitive politicians
edit- Propose merging Category:Fugitive politicians to Category:Exiled politicians
- Nominator's rationale: Currently the contents of this category are only from Bangladesh, and indeed are identical to the contents of Category:Exiled Bangladeshi politicians. If we were to keep this category, it needs to have a clear distinction from Category:Exiled politicians. Qualiesin (talk) 16:50, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Just delete, it shouldn't be merged to Category:Exiled politicians if the articles are already in a subcategory of it. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:25, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
Category:NIO (car company)
edit- Propose renaming Category:NIO (car company) to Category:Nio Inc.
- Propose renaming Category:NIO (car company) people to Category:Nio people
- Propose renaming Category:NIO (car company) vehicles to Category:Nio vehicles
- Nominator's rationale: Consistency with Nio Inc. article. We do not need an unnecessary disambiguator for the subcategories as there are no other categories with "Nio" in it. It is also common for those to be omitted in Category:People by company and Category:Vehicles by brand subcategories Inpops (talk) 15:30, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Alt rename to Category:Nio Inc. people and Category:Nio Inc. vehicles for consistency. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:27, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Looking at this now I think the vehicles category should definitely be renamed to just Nio vehicles. Most brand vehicle categories take out any unnecessary disambiguation and this should be no different. Most people are not going to recognize the company name as "Nio Inc.", and in the articles on the vehicles themselves the company is referred to as just Nio. It's just beyond me how the Tesla vehicle category was renamed while this proposal may seemingly not go through as expected. Inpops (talk) 16:34, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

Category:NPR personalities
edit- Nominator's rationale: Perfomances on a specific radio station is textbook WP:PERFCAT --woodensuperman 15:01, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Delete per nom, it is one of multiple jobs that people have in their lifetime. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:30, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Actually, for a journalist, making it to this level - a national broadcast network like NPR (which is much larger than a single radio station) - is entirely on a par with making it onto a Major League baseball or football team. Those folks are ALL categorized for each team they have played for - and the same basic principle should be applied here. Anomalous+0 (talk) 10:49, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep, most of the people in the category have worked at NPR for a significant amount of time, long enough to be defining. We have plenty of categories for people by organization, this is just fine. It could be renamed to Category:NPR people or Category:People associated with NPR, but I don't see the point in that. Qualiesin (talk) 01:39, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- Alternate proposal - Rename to Category:NPR people, and then create subcats for regular correspondents; news anchors & program hosts; and NPR executives, like the current CEO Katherine Maher, who is not an "on-air personality" (except when she's on C-SPAN being grilled by the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene). The great majority of the current articles belong in one of those groups; the smaller number which don't meet one of those descriptions can be weeded out & removed. Anomalous+0 (talk) 10:44, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- I can get behind this approach too. It seems very similar to the one we use for Category:BBC people (although that should also be purged or moved to subcategories per the instruction tag). --woodensuperman 18:08, 1 August 2025 (UTC)

Brand vehicles
edit- Propose renaming Category:ORA vehicles to Category:Ora vehicles
- Propose renaming Category:WEY vehicles to Category:Wey vehicles
- Nominator's rationale: Consistency with Ora (marque) and Wey (marque) articles. Parenthesis is omitted per other subcats in Category:Vehicles by brand, such as Category:Mini vehicles and Category:Smart vehicles. Inpops (talk) 15:00, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Alt rename to Category:Ora (marque) vehicles and Category:Wey (marque) vehicles for consistency. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:32, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- I don't mind the Nio proposal as much but if we go through wth this one surely that would create inconsistency with the other [[:Category:Vehicles by brand]] subcats. There are many articles on car brands with "(marque)" or "(brand)" as a disambiguator, with their categories omitting this. It seems more appropriate to do that with this. Also wasn't there a discussing requesting to rename the category to Tesla vehicles to just [[:Category:Tesla vehicles]], removing an unnecessary disambiguator and becoming less ambitious. - Support all per nom; follows prior consensus on not overly subdividing animal groups. I have done maintenance work on other categories in this space, but I'm not convinced they're excessively useful and I don't think they need to be dispersed to this level. - Keep All - These are among the 103 subcats of Category:Environmental organizations by country and the 9 subcats of Category:Environmental organizations based in Africa by country. Standard practice over the years has always been to exempt small subcats of this sort from automatic merging or deletion.
- In fact, as I pointed out yesterday, this practice was alluded to in the long-standing former guideline WP:SMALLCAT, which said "unless such categories are part of a large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme." And it's also referred to directly in the Essay at WP:MFN (which is a work-in-progress for a guideline to supersede WP:SMALLCAT), as follows:
- 6. The "large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme"
- The "large established tree" clause exists so that categorizing editors can add articles to categories without checking beforehand whether that category exists or should exist. Because it is part of an established tree they may rely on the fact that it exists or should exist.
- Furthermore, environmental organizations like these are intrinsically focused on local issues, which makes it all the more important to keep these subcats as an essential part of our Category scheme. Anomalous+0 (talk) 09:40, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- Btw, there should also be a subcat for Ghana, since there's already an article for an org based there. Anomalous+0 (talk) 10:14, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- With so many countries lacking a category this argument is not really valid. Editors will need to check beforehand whether that category exists anyway. Besides I assume that the usage of Hotcat is meanwhile widespread, so that this has become less relevant anyway. As for the fact that they are organizations focused on local issues, that applies to most organizations in e.g. Category:Organisations based in Somalia and the intenties is of course not to remove the articles of that tree. - Keep all: Well-formed non-empty categories within existing hierarchies. We have been round this loop of discussion before, and I thought it had been established that a category can be created for one article, as long as there is scope for there to be more articles later. (Thus Category:Moons of Earth would not be valid.) If there is now one environmental organization in a country which has an en.wiki article, there are likely to be more now or in future. The category puts the article into a hierarchy of useful categories, and is appropriate. PamD 23:08, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: No need to diffuse at the intersection of century and specific citySMasonGarrison 01:48, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
Keep: I think the overall number of articles and the fairly restrained and systematic approach of creating categories by century makes diffuse useful. I know it is not an argument for keeping as such, but if you have a problem with the number of articles in this category, I suggest that you have a look at the way Category:Disasters by country and year is being administrated. I checked a number of countries and most have categories for a handful of random years with only one or two articles in them. I could understand why such categories would be deemed "not useful", but categories by century are very useful when the overall number of articles increases. In this case, I think that at least the number of articles in the 18th-, 19th- and 20th-century categories should be enough to keep them. The 17th-century category should perhaps be deleted for now.Ramblersen2 (talk) 10:01, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep:I don't see any reason to merge. We need more category diffusions by century, not less. Category:Mayors of Copenhagen is by nature a container category. Dimadick (talk) 08:17, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- Comment: for the first listed entry, the second merge target is the same as the nominated category. Kaffet i halsen (talk) 06:59, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
